Summer Series | One piece, two piece, red piece, blue piece!

Buoyed by my previous find of jeans, I decided to approach the unmentionable world of swimwear.

Previously, these stores saw me reach to the back of the rack for the blackest, tummy controlling, minimizing piece I could get my hands on. This would be followed by a kaftan and a large towel that were my constant companions as we headed beachside.

I steadied my nerves and took myself to a specialty swimwear store. I was approached when I walked in and after a few questions I was presented with an absolute kaleidoscope of colour, style and patterns.

I was asked what size I was and told her I wasn’t sure, she told me how lucky I was as I would have a very large choice. I looked over my shoulder to make sure she was talking to me, she was!

That day I tried on 8 suits and, dare I say, a few bikinis! I had never worn a bikini. I left the store with my purchase and a few weeks later, debuted my new swimsuit.

I was very nervous but was greeted by the huge smiles of my children. They couldn’t believe how happy I looked. They also couldn’t believe that the kaftan and towel were nowhere to be seen.

That day, I swam, I laughed and I went for a walk along the beach – salt on my skin and a smile on my face!
