My husband had started a new job and I had yet to meet his colleagues.
The invite arrived for us to attend a charity ball. I was very excited to be able to choose an outfit, get my hair and makeup done, and put my best foot forward – this was the new me.
Not one person I was going to meet tonight knew me pre-bariatric surgery. This was my chance to shine!
I silenced the last-minute nerves by busying myself until the Uber arrived. At the venue, I met my husband’s colleagues and began making the usual small talk. I had so many compliments and I truly felt on top of the world!
The meals were served and I used my fork to portion off what I would eat. I had decided that I would skip the entrée, enjoy the main and then dessert. I managed to space out my wine and food, and funnily enough, no one questioned my choices or the pace at which I ate my food.
I loved this new version of me, I loved the freedom and the choices I had made that got me to this point. I danced the rest of the night away. I went home and, as I removed my makeup, I realized I was still smiling – what a night!
