Most adults need between 1.3mg to 1.7mg of vitamin B6 each day, and this amount is usually easy to reach through food alone. However, many people may be taking in much more than they realise.
That’s because vitamin B6 is often hidden in supplements and fortified products - it can be found in multivitamins, magnesium blends, immune-support formulas, migraine relief supplements and even energy drinks. Over time, this can push your daily intake well beyond what your body actually needs.
So, what happens if you get too much? Unlike some other vitamins, B6 can build up in the body, and excessive amounts may cause unpleasant side effects such as nausea, stomachpain, or even peripheral neuropathy which is a condition that can cause tingling, numbness, pain or weakness in the hands and feet.
To keep your intake in check, it’s a good idea to read supplement labels carefully and avoidproducts that contain unnecessary extra B vitamins.
