Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) involves the placement of internal stitches inside the stomach to decrease the volume and change the shape of the stomach.
It works by reducing the quantity of food that can be consumed and therefore reduces the amount of calories that can be absorbed.
Because it is an endoscopic procedure, there are no abdominal incisions and therefore recovery time is reduced. It should be noted that ESG is currently an experimental procedure. Further scientific research will provide more information about the long term effects.
