Perioperative optimisation
Improving your health and readiness for surgery
Your health before any type of surgery can influence your recovery and surgical outcomes.
Re:You Health provides medically supervised perioperative optimisation for people who have been referred by a surgeon or medical specialist, or who have been advised to improve their weight or metabolic health before a planned procedure.
Our aim is to provide timely assessment and evidence-based treatment to improve your health and readiness for surgery without unnecessarily delaying your procedure.
Who may benefit?
Perioperative optimisation may be appropriate if you:
- have been advised to lose weight before surgery
- have obesity or metabolic health conditions that may increase surgical risk
- require improvement in blood glucose, blood pressure or other health conditions before a procedure
- need support to improve nutrition, physical activity, muscle mass or physical function
- may benefit from medically supervised obesity treatment before surgery
Your assessment and treatment plan
Your GP will consider your health, current medical conditions, medications, body composition and the type and timing of your planned procedure.
Relevant blood tests, investigations or further assessments may be arranged where appropriate.
Depending on your individual needs, your treatment plan may include lifestyle and nutritional support, obesity management medications, management of metabolic health conditions, body composition monitoring, strategies to preserve muscle mass and physical function, and involvement of other healthcare professionals where required.
Coordinated care
With your consent, we can work with your referring surgeon, specialist, regular GP and other healthcare providers to support coordinated care and communicate relevant progress.
Where surgery is time-sensitive, we aim to provide timely access to assessment and treatment recommendations.
Depending on your needs, we can also provide ongoing medical and lifestyle support following surgery.
Our goal is to help you approach surgery in the best health possible and support your recovery and long-term health.
