Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding involves placing an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach during keyhole surgery.

The band is connected to an access port beneath the skin, allowing it to be adjusted over time to achieve the right balance between restriction, comfort and healthy eating.

Although gastric banding is performed much less commonly than in the past, many people continue to live well with their gastric bands and benefit from experienced long-term follow-up. Others may experience difficulties such as poor food tolerance, reflux, regurgitation, vomiting, weight regain or inadequate weight loss, and may benefit from reassessment and optimisation of their care.
