Dr Teresa Girolamo MBBS DCH FRACGP
Dr Girolamo graduated from Adelaide University in 1994 and completed her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1999. Through her extensive work in general practice both in Australia and overseas, she has developed a passion for preventative medicine and lifestyle modification. This led to her interest in obesity management and she has been working in this field since 2008.
Dr Girolamo uses an evidence based approach to weight loss, utilising both surgical and non-surgical strategies. Through her work in General Practice Dr Girolamo is able to approach her patients in a holistic manner, and understands the multiple stressors, both medical and psychosocial, which may impact on an individual's weight and lifestyle choices.
Dr Girolamo has also been heavily involved in the Antenatal Shared Care programme, and therefore has a lot of experience with the affect that obesity may have on fertility and adverse pregnancy outcomes. As a general practitioner, she is also constantly dealing with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and osteoarthritis, and finds the positive medical outcomes that are achieved after bariatric surgery to be hugely rewarding. Patients often describe significant sustained weight loss as a positive life changing process, and Dr Girolamo is excited to be a part of this. She understands that there may be many hurdles along the way, and aims to support her patients and their families through this journey.
Dr Girolamo is married with 2 delightful sons. She enjoys cooking, jogging, beach holidays, entertaining and fun times with family and friends.
