Dr Zanna Murfitt BMBS BSc (Biomed)(Hons) FRACGP

Dr Zanna Murfitt completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Adelaide in 1999 and then followed this by an Honours degree in 2000. She then completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Flinders University and graduated in 2004. Dr Murfitt has worked in General Practice in Australia and Canada for the past 11 years and became a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioner in 2011.

Dr Murfitt became interested in obesity and its related complications early in her General Practice career. She noticed that a large proportion of her patients in General Practice have chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and osteoarthritis and that increased weight was central to many of these disease processes. She therefore became passionate about improving the health and quality of life for these patients through evidence based treatments for obesity. Dr Murfitt also has a lot of experience in fertility problems and antenatal care. She understands that reducing weight can improve fertility and is therefore dedicated to helping patients in this area to improve obstetric outcomes.

Throughout her career, Dr Murfitt became aware that bariatric surgery, coupled with life-long lifestyle modification was the best evidence-based management approach for obesity and its related complications. She also understands that surgery is not always the best option for everyone. She is therefore dedicated to working with patients to find an evidence based weight management strategy that best suits them. She will then work alongside her patients and share in the journey to improved health and wellbeing.

Being a mother of 3 young girls, Dr Murfitt understands that life can get busy! Now working solely in the area of weight management, she has become enthusiastic about motivating people to find a renewed focus on themselves so that they can enjoy a better quality of life.

Dr Murfitt is married with 3 beautiful daughters. She loves gardening, baking, bike riding, playing the piano and spending time with her family.
